(3) Milblogs

Milblogs are something new for me, and I found the experience to be a good one. Several of my friends are either in Iraq or about to deploy, and I’ve found that after reading the blog, I have a better understanding of what they went through. I know I’ll never be able to understand exactly what they were feeling while they were in the warzone, but reading the other soldier’s experiences in Iraq helps. When I responded to the posts, I tried to infuse every response with wishing them a safe return.

Yes - we'll talk about this tonight.

Yeah, no kidding. I think you're right to wish them a safe return. They all deserve to be welcomed home and be safe and happy. It's just a shame they ever had to be deployed in the first place.

I had somewhat of a similar experience from reading the milblogs. It truly does open your eyes to seeing the war from another perspective. I hope your friends are doing well and return safely!

The only part about wishing they return safely (and I admit I’m guilty of this myself) is that I fear it may ring hallow after a while. I am not saying there isn’t any truth to what your or myself say, but with it being said so much, I fear that meaning won’t carry over with each successive post. I think this feeds deeper into myself not feeling I can say anything to people who have gone through such things, but maybe to them a simple “Be safe” means the world. Only they can tell us that, I guess.

I had the same type of experience, like you and nick when reading the milblogs. I am praying for your friends to return safely
